Side Two: A Dragonfly, Nella's Dancing Slippers, The Quarrel, The Tide in the River, The Night Will Never Stay, The Sea Baby
"In this and other stories, Eleanor Farjeon's beautiful and rhythmic use of words evokes a world of gentle fantasy where fairies skip in the new moon, a village appears from under the sea and magic dancing slippers become earrings for a water nymph. These are very special stories to us and a very special cassette." Ages 5-12.

"Ellin Greene has a calming voice that allows these stories to carry themselves...From a company that produces consistently high quality tapes for children this recording is clear and uncluttered and will be welcome for home and library listening."
Eleanor Farjeon was the recipient of three prestigious awards: the Carnegie Medal, the first international Hans Christian Andersen Medal, and the first Regina Medal.
Like so many of Farjeon's stories for children, "Elsie Piddock Skips in Her Sleep" moves back and forth between reality and imagination. In my doctoral dissertation, "Eleanor Farjeon: the Shaping of a Literary Imagination" I drew upon Farjeon's work for insight into the development of artistic creativity, and, in particular, the relationship between childhood fantasy play and the shaping of a literary imagination.
I made this recording in 1984. "Elsie Piddock Skips in Her Sleep" was Eleanor Farjeon's favorite story and it became my signature story. It delights me - as I think it would delight the author - that over 25 years later this recording is still in demand. Available from A Gentle Wind, Box 3103, Albany, NY 12203 (518) 436-0391
